Gun violence in New York saw an increase this summer after over a decade of decline. Harlem activist and mother Jackie Rowe-Adams and her organization Harlem Mothers SAVE have worked tirelessly to stop the violence, working with schools, residents, organizers, the police, and most importantly, one other.

After years of collecting dust, an elementary school in East Harlem is about to have a second life. Plans to renovate P.S. 109 into an innovative housing project by June 2014 are moving forward.
